LIMA (Sputnik) – The President of Peru, Martín Vizcarra, stressed that the quarantine decreed on March 16 by the crisis of the new coronavirus, has managed to reduce the projection of infections to 20% in the event that no action had been taken.
“We are close to 1,000 cases (contagion on Monday 30), that is 20% of the projection if we had not done anything,” said the president at a press conference from the Government Palace in Lima.
Vizcarra affirmed that, according to the opinion of the experts consulted by the Government, it was calculated that, if no action was taken, the infected would exceed 5,000.
To date, Peru registers 950 infected by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and a balance of 24 deceased.
“It could have been better (the result) if so many irresponsible people had not evaded the provisions trying to get around the norm (which decrees quarantine and the curfew),” said the head of state.
The Government decided to extend the curfew from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. local time (9:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. GMT), which will take effect on Tuesday the 31st.
Until Monday 30, the curfew was from 18:00 to 5:00 local time (23:00 to 10:00 GMT).
According to the latest data from the World Health Organization, in the world there are 693,224 confirmed cases of contagion and 33,106 deaths.
