The heads of government of the Visegrád countries – the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia (V4) – and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel will hold a video conference on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the problems of the coronavirus pandemic and the focal points of EU economic development after the Carry out pandemic.

“The participants in the video conference will discuss the current state of the pandemic in Central Europe, including the question of opening the border together and a number of economic issues. After the joint negotiations, there will be a bilateral phone call between the Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis and the Chancellor Angela Merkel, ”said the press service of the government of the Czech Republic.

The meeting will be attended for the first time by the Slovak Prime Minister Igor Matovic, whose government was formed following the results of the parliamentary elections on February 29 this year.

Priorities of the last summit

The last joint summit of the leaders of the Visegrad group and Germany had taken place in February 2019 in the capital of Slovakia, which was then chairing the group. The agenda of the meeting at that time was on questions of EU economic development, migration problems and the construction of the Nordstream 2 natural gas pipeline.
